#3: The Walt Whitman Archive

This response is a bit late, but I thought I would post it anyway.  I had a really hard time trying to find something to write about, but eventually I found the Walt Whitman Archive online, which I had actually used a few times as an English undergraduate.  It’s a really comprehensive collection of Whitman’s work, including his poetry, his drafts, translations, periodicals, correspondence, biographies, academic commentary, etc.  The site also makes the TEI/XML-encoded files available for download and has a link to a change-log that tracks all of the changes that have been made. The site gives readers an opportunity to mention any mistakes they may have noticed in the poetry so that these mistakes can be fixed (the changes are then charted in the change-log).  Additionally, there is an extensive Encoding Guidelines made available and which is based on the TEI Guidelines for Electronic Text Encoding and Interchange.
